VW mods - Quickie table

Roger using the quickie table

I wanted a quick sheet of wood I could grab and place across my lap to use as a pseudo table, whether I was working on the laptop or eating dinner.

I ended up using the same vinyl coated 1/4" particle board I used for the bonus shelf and closet shelves. It is 24" wide by 22 1/2" deep, with a notch cut out for my belly. It is stored with the two tables that came with the camper, just behind the driver seat. I just slide it in and don't secure it with the strap like the other tables, and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Astute observers will notice a rectangular piece of acrylic riveted to one corner. This was part of an attempt to have it perfectly fit in the front passenger area, as a table where the corners rested on ledges and my legs were free to move. The acrylic would sit on the elbow support in the door, the opposite corner would rest on the extended ash tray, another on the left seat arm rest, and the fourth had a hole where a string with an S-hook would secure it the Jesus handle. The idea was to let me work on the laptop while Margaret drove, and keep the table supported above my legs. It actually worked quite well, but Margaret wouldn't let me use it while we were moving, because she was afraid I might slice myself in half in case of an accident. So I never really used it in this context.

But it works great as a quick table. But really, any thin piece of square or rectangular wood would work just as well.
