VW mods - Medicine cabinet
A large mirror is a must have for camping to help you fix that awful bed hair. Some
Eurovan campers have them installed by Winnebago, but not mine. I've seen them installed
both on the inside and outside of the medicine cabinet door, and I chose to install
it on the outside for two reasons. I wanted to mount shelves on the inside, and
I wanted to be able to sit in the rear seat and comfortably look into the mirror.
If the mirror is mounted to the inside of the door, you have to sit awkardly in
the rear seat to use the mirror. Margaret had some concerns that the mirror mounted
on the outside might create annoying reflections for the driver, but that has not
happened.
I had the mirror custom cut to the desired size by a local glass and mirror shop.
I forget the exact cost, but it was less than $5. Mirror mounting brackets from
the hardware store made installation a snap.
On the inside, Margaret mounted two identical vinyl coated metal shelves. Again,
my memory fails me, but I bought them for just a few bucks from a place like Target,
Wal-Mart, or Home Depot. They were a perfect size that help make the most efficient
use of the medicine cabinet.
